Everything You Need to Know About Street Photography Workshops in Hong Kong

What if I'm a complete beginner?

Perfect! Most of my students are beginners, and that's exactly who I love teaching. I assume zero prior knowledge and explain everything in plain English without overwhelming technical jargon.

We'll start with the absolute basics - what all those buttons and settings actually do - and build from there. My teaching style adapts to your pace, so you'll never feel lost or left behind. By the end of 3 hours, you'll be confidently making creative decisions about your photos rather than just hoping for the best.

Do I need an expensive camera for the workshop?

Absolutely not! Some of my best student work has come from mobile phones and basic cameras. The workshop is about learning to see and compose compelling images - the camera is just the tool.

Whether you have a professional DSLR, a simple point-and-shoot, or just your smartphone, I'll teach you to maximise its capabilities. What matters most is your willingness to learn and experiment. If you don't own a camera, I have professional equipment available to borrow during the workshop.

Which Hong Kong locations do we visit?

I choose locations based on your interests and the lighting conditions on our workshop day. We'll focus on one neighbourhood area, visiting 2-3 complementary spots within walking distance.

Popular areas include Central's urban architecture, Sheung Wan's blend of old and new, Mong Kok's vibrant street life, or the cultural scenes around Tai Kwun. Each location offers different photographic challenges and learning opportunities. During booking, we'll discuss which neighbourhood appeals to you most.

    What happens if it rains?

Hong Kong weather can be unpredictable, but light rain often creates some of the most atmospheric street photography! Hong Kong's covered walkways, MTR stations, and indoor markets provide excellent shooting opportunities regardless of weather.

For heavy rain or typhoon warnings, we'll reschedule at no additional cost. I monitor weather forecasts closely and will contact you if we need to adjust our plans. Your workshop fee is fully transferable to a new date within three months.

Can I book a workshop for my family/friends?

Absolutely! Small group workshops are perfect for couples, families, or friends who want to learn together. The pricing structure accommodates up to 6 people, and everyone receives the same personalised attention.

Group workshops are particularly fun because you can photograph each other and learn from watching others' approaches. I'll ensure everyone gets individual guidance while maintaining the relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere that makes learning stick.

Do you offer photography workshops year-round?

Yes! Hong Kong's climate allows for great street photography in every season. Each time of year offers unique opportunities - from crisp winter light to dramatic summer skies.

I'm available seven days a week, though I prefer weekday workshops when the streets are less crowded and we have better access to locations. We can schedule workshops for any time that works with your availability.

Is the workshop suitable for mobile phone photography?

Definitely! Mobile phone cameras have become incredibly sophisticated, and many professional photographers now use them regularly. I'll teach you advanced mobile photography techniques including manual controls, composition principles, and how to work with your phone's specific capabilities.

The fundamental principles of great street photography - timing, composition, light, and storytelling - apply regardless of your equipment. You'll leave knowing how to create compelling images with whatever camera you carry every day.

    Buying as a gift?

Purchase a gift certificate that can be scheduled at later date.
